Back to school date on 'Public' was set on Monday, June 1, 2015 and will end on Friday, April 1, 2016, which was strictly observed in all schools, according to DepEd.

The said dates includes the actual teaching-learning days that consist of 201 school days, and the 5-day In-Service Training (INSET) break.

Private schools are allowed to have different opening dates from the said School Calendar but they can't start classes earlier than the first Monday of June and not later than the last day of August.

Due to Republic Act (RA) No. 7797, "An Act to Lengthen the School Calendar from Two Hundred (200) Days to Not More Than Two Hundred Twenty (220) Class Days."

DepEd sighted also that Schools may observe national and local celebrations, holidays and advocacy activities. Make-up classes are allowed to compensate for the school days spent for activities deemed beneficial to the learning-teaching process.
