As the new president of the Philippines is yet to declare July 6, as special non-working holiday on entire country. President Rodrigo Duterte will declare the day of Eid’l Fitr or The end of Ramadan as a holiday.

According to the Communications Secretary Martin Andanar, "no proclamation had been issued as of yesterday, but that an announcement may be made shortly."

"Executive Secretary (Salvador) Medialdea talked about it and it will be on July 6," Andanar added.

The announcement might be released today or tomorrow, based on the PCO secretary interview on the state-run radio dzRB.

Eid’l Fitr marks the end of a month-long fasting and an opportunity for Muslims to thank God. It is an important religious holiday celebrated by Muslims worldwide, according to Wikipedia.

The former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed into law Republic Act 9177 declaring the 10th month of the Islamic calendar a national holiday for the observance of Eid’l Fitr.

Eid’l Fitr is based on the Islamic or lunar calendar or upon Islamic astronomical calculations.

Meanwhile, Islam has more than five million members in the predominantly Catholic Philippines, as reported by Philstar.
